Carolina Power is a competitive dance company offered by CDC that specializes in jazz, lyrical/contemporary, tap, and hip-hop.

 

Carolina Power dance company members become well rounded dancers with all of their weekly technical training as well as choreography classes in the genres they participate in. Carolina Power dance company will compete at two local dance competitions each year, allowing dancers to explore their love for dance every week and put all that hard work on stage for all to see! Carolina Power aims to be a fun and rewarding company where all dancers are expected to give their best effort and in return, find a strong passion for the love of dance, performing, competing, team work, and hard work!​

THE DETAILS:

Opportunities

  • Power dancers will get to work closely with CDC Faculty and may have the opportunity to work with outside choreographers.

  • Dancers have options to compete group dances in 1, 2, 3, or all 4 genres to participate in (jazz, lyrical/contemporary, hip-hop, and tap)

  • Dancers have the option to compete a solo and duet/trio.

  • Carolina Power dancers will have multiple team bonding events, to help cultivate and grow relationships with other dancers.

  • Dancers are able to participate in exclusive master classes at CDC throughout the season.

  • Power dancers can ALSO be a member of Carolina Civic Ballet and/or Carolina Rhythm but it is not required.

Requirements

  • Power dancers attend 2 required local competition. We also offer optional events that dancers can attend throughout the season.

  • All Power dancers will perform in Company Showcase at a local theater to debut the competition group dances.  

  • Power dancers must be enrolled in weekly CDC class in the genre you compete and your choreography class. Dancers are required to have great attendance in these weekly classes. 

  • Jazz and lyrical/contemporary does require a weekly ballet class

  • Power dancers will have a weekly company class to rehearse and learn choreography

  • Power groups may have outside choreographers and may be subject to learning the choreography outside of class time.

Values

  • We value a strong work ethic in the classroom, at the studio and events. Dancer will be encouraged to be the best version of themselves while acquiring the skills of discipline, respect and the value of team work. ​

  • We believe that it is possible to pursue excellence while also prioritizing kindness and inclusivity.

  • We value working as a team and supporting each other across the various age divisions. We also recognize the importance of parents modeling this behavior amongst each other.  

  • Dancers receive feedback throughout the season which facilitates growth as a dancers, artists, and people. As a team we prioritize growth over prizes.

Saturday, May 16th​

 

Rising 9th - 12th Grade

(Hip Hop) 11:00am-11:30am - $15

(Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary) 11:30am-12:30pm - $30

 

​Rising 6th-8th Grade

(Hip Hop) 2:15pm-2:45pm - $15​

(Jazz, Lyrical Contemporary) 2:45pm-3:45pm - $30​

 

Rising 3rd-5th Grade

(Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary) 4:15pm-5:30pm - $30

(Hip Hop) 5:30pm-6:00pm - $15​

 

Sunday, May 17th 

(Carolina Power Tap - ages 8+) 3:15pm-4:00pm - $30

 

*Dancers who need a make-up audition must still register online and follow up with an email requesting a make-up audition option.*

Audition Attire

Dancers will be scored on appearance and should be thoughtful about their overall appearance

Appropriate dance attire for the jazz, contemporary, lyrical and technique auditions: leotard, sports bra, tight tank top, leggings, booty shorts, tight joggers.

 

No baggy t-shirts, sweatpants, or running shorts.

 

Hair must be slicked back in a bun, braid, or ponytail. Small earrings are acceptable.

 

Dancers should start barefoot but can bring jazz shoes.

 

For the hip hop auditions baggy clothing is acceptable and encouraged and dancers should wear sneakers.

 

Dancers may bring a water bottle into the audition.

Audition Results

RESULTS will be sent via email by Friday, May 22nd

*New dancers might be asked to come to an additional call back.*

If you are selected as a 2026-2027 Carolina Power member, There will be a mandatory parent on Thursday, June 11th at 7:00pm (in person at CDC)
